Peter Cokkinias

Clarinetist and conductor Peter L. Cokkinias is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, and was educated in Hartford, New York City, and Cincinatti. His principal teachers have been Robert Marcellus, Bernard Portnoy and Herbert Blayman on clarinet; and Thomas Schippers, Richard Lert, and Boris Goldovsky in conducting. Other important teachers include Erich Leinsdorf, Seiji Ozawa, André Previn, Aaron Copland, and Leonard Bernstein while he was a student at Tanglewood. He is presently completing his twenty-third season as music director of The Greater Marlborough Symphony Orchestra.

As an active freelance musician in Boston, he has performed with the Boston Symphony and Pops, Boston Ballet, and Boston Lyric Opera. In addition, as a woodwind doubler, he performed in many Broadway shows in Boston's Colonial, Shubert, and Wang Theaters as well as the North Shore Theater in Beverly. He is presently professor of music at Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory.
