Luis Rossi

In her book Clarinet Virtuosi of Today, British clarinet historian Pamela Weston describes Luis Rossi as "the only top player in the world performing with instruments of his own design and construction." In performance with the Amadeus Quartet, he was hailed by the critics as "a first-class soloist." Along with Marta Argerich, Daniel Barenboim and other illustrious Argentine musicians, Mr. Rossi has been awarded the Konex Prize.

Mr. Rossi plays regular recitals and gives master classes at Belgium's Ostend and Leuven Conservatories and recently at London's Royal College of Music and the Colchester Single Reed Festival. Other recent performances include a recital at Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium and, in Caracas, the South American premiere of the Corigliano Clarinet Concerto. Guest Instructor in Clarinet Performance at Michigan State University in 1996, he has also offered master classes and recitals at Indiana University, Western Michigan University and Oberlin College.

Mr. Rossi has performed clarinet concertos by Mozart, Weber, Rossini, Copland, Mercadante and Gandini throughout South America. He was the featured soloist for the Chile Chamber orchestra's 1998 tour of Moscow, Prague, Warsaw, Krakow, Kiev, Viena, and Detmoldt.

Mr. Rossi has recorded three CDs: Fantasía sul América (clarinet & piano), Rapsodie (clarinet and piano), and Live Performances (three concertos for clarinet and orchestra).
